Samarium cobalt magnets belong to rare earth magnets. It includes SmCo5 and Sm2Co17, made from samarium, cobalt and some other trace metal elements. With its excellent energy and low temperature coefficient, samarium cobalt magnets can work under high temperature 350°C. When it works at above 180 ℃, its maximum energy (BHmax), coercivity, temperature and chemical stability are better than sintered neodymium magnets.
SmCo magnets have excellent anticorrosion and anti-rusting, are unnecessary to be coated after production. They are widely used in aerospace, microwave, telecommunications, medical, instruments, meters, sensors, electrical etc.

New Study of Samarium Cobalt Magnet |
In 2012, a Japanese company has developed an engine with high iron concentration SmCo magnet which is completely free of rare earth element dysprosium, but magnetic force is stronger than heat-resistant neodymium magnet.
The high iron concentration samarium cobalt magnet used a special heat treatment technology, it make the magnetic force stronger than sintered neodymium magnet at temperature above 100ºC.
In order to increase the magnetic force, researchers increase the weight ratio of iron from 15% to 20-25%, and adjust the sintering temperature, time and pressure to achieve the best condition, thereby reduce obstacle factors such as oxide which hinder the increase of magnetic force. |

Manufacturing Process of SmCo Magnets |
Raw Materials (SmCo5 or Sm2Co17 Materials) → Milling → Melting → Pressing → Sintering → Magnetic Inspection → Grinding → Cutting → Finished.
We use wet fine grinding (water-cooling) and diamond grinding wheel to produce samarium cobalt magnets, this procedure is necessary. Grinding waste must not be completely dry, because samarium cobalt magnet material is flammable, a small spark or production with static electricity is easy to cause a fire. |
